Our Infant Classroom is a calm, nurturing environment where children learn to explore the world around them. Teachers are attentive to children’s individual needs and follow each infant’s individualized daily schedule for eating, sleeping and play times. Infants will be held when bottle fed and whenever they need comfort. With the Infant Classroom low teacher to child ratio, teachers have the time and opportunity to engage young infants in tummy time, grasping activities and reading. The mobile infants will enjoy daily outside time, planned art activities, block play and a soft climbing area in the classroom.
What to expect in the Brighton Infant Classroom
In the Brighton Infant Classroom, children will:
Learn how to sit up, crawl, walk and run
Learn to smile, respond to language, babble, coo, say simple words
Add to language skills up to 10 simple baby signs
Be engaged in reading, singing, poetry and the arts such as dance
Have hands on learning activities building math and science skills
Enjoy social and emotional development through play in small groups, teachers, and peers
Be engaged with the natural world through outdoor learning and exploration
The Preschool is open from 7:30am to 5:30pm. All families are asked to drop children off before 11:00am each day and pick up no later than 5:30pm.
Our daily schedule gives students plenty of opportunities for general exploration, introduction to new topics, and socialization in large and small groups. Children learn about nature through outside play twice a day and take a much-needed brain break after lunch time. During a nap children’s brains process all the learning and experiences they have had during the morning.
All infant schedules are individualized. Families will complete a Daily Routine Form monthly in cooperation with their Infant Classroom teacher to ensure children are thriving. The children will enjoy daily outside time, art activities and classroom exploration in a general routine to develop their sense of time.
Low ratios are essential to providing young children with high quality, meaningful learning experiences. We pride ourselves on following NAEYC standard ratios and ensuring we are attentive and engaged with each of our students and providing the best possible care and education.
Infant classroom: 1 teacher to 4 children; Transition classroom: 1 teacher to 6 children; Preschool classroom: 1 teacher to 7 children; Kindergarten Ready 1 teacher to 8 children. These are some of the lowest ratios in the city of San Antonio for each age group.
Our teachers are amazing, devoted, and highly talented. They genuinely care for the students in their class and have the experience and education to create learning experiences and relationships that will last a lifetime. In each classroom at least one of the teachers has a college degree either in education or a closely related field. In most of our classrooms, both the lead and assistant teachers have a degree and/or certification.
All of our teachers pursue ongoing training and education on an annual basis and receive at least 30 hours of training each year. 90% of our teachers have been with Brighton for more than a year and the majority have been with us for several years. In addition, we have substitutes on staff so that when our teachers need to be out, our students will still have a familiar face. Finally, our teachers are supported by an experienced administrative team, ensuring all of our students receive a great learning experience.
To support our teachers, provide continuity of care and a daily active learning environment for the children, we have Curriculum and Classroom Coordinators, Substitutes, and an Intervention Specialist on staff. These individuals are all full-time active members of the Preschool team.
When you eat well, you grow, learn, and feel well.
We make a conscious effort to help our students enjoy a variety of tasty and nutritious meals each day. In fact, all of our meals align with the guidelines set forth by the USDA. Additionally, we also take care to use fresh, high-quality ingredients and prepare each meal with love and tons of flavors.
We serve breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and a small 5pm snack each day. However, if a child has an allergy or the family has a food preference, the family will provide the substitution or meal for their child.
One of the best ways to get children interested in trying new foods is by involving them in the process. For example, our students help plant herbs and veggies in our garden, maintain the garden, participate in a variety of cooking activities in the classroom, give feedback on foods they would like to have on next month’s menu, and practice family style dining.
At Brighton’s Preschool Centers we understand that Parents play a vital role in the development of their children. That is why we involve our parents in ongoing curriculum and center activities in our Infant Classroom. In addition, we meet annually with parents and discuss their child’s current developmental progress and goals to ensure we are working together towards kindergarten readiness.
Communication between teachers and parents is a high priority at Brighton Center. Furthermore, we recognize the trust you place in us with your children and take that responsibility seriously. That’s why we have partnered with Procare to provide parents information, progress reports, photos, videos, and more of their children while they are in our care.
To always keep parents in the loop, we use a communication system called Procare.
It’s available for your smart device and will help you to share important information with infant classroom teachers and create a comprehensive record of all the great things your child is learning at Brighton Center. Additionally, all families automatically receive emails from Procare which contain photos and details about their child’s day in our Infant Classroom.
